The Bheemarayanagudi Police arrested Karbasappa Biral, taluk president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Youth Wing of Shahapur in Yadgir, on Sunday for allegedly entering into the administrative office of Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigama Limited (KBJNL) and setting the Chief Engineer's chair on fire on Saturday late evening.

According to the police, the accused accompanied by few others pushed the watchman, who was on duty outside the CE's chamber, and took away the chair before setting it on fire.

As per initial report, Karbasappa was angry after officials denied him information about the progress of canal works taken in the taluk.

When contacted, V.K. Potadar, Chief Engineer (in charge) told The Hindu on Sunday that Karbasappa had sought some information a week ago and the officials were instructed to provide him with it. But, due to some important works on NABARD scheme, official were unable to do so on time.

“I also spoken to him and asked to wait for some days. When I was busy in another sections of the same building, he entered into the chamber and took away the chair and set it on the fire,” Mr. Potadar said.

Meanwhile, Mallanagowda Ukkanal, taluk president of BJP, removed Karbasappa from his post after the incident. “It is unfortunate that he took law into his hands,” he said. However, he would remain as party worker, he added.
