BJP activists staged a demonstration to highlight the poor state of roads in Mysuru on Friday. They marched through Ramanuja Road and placed placards and caution boards at potholes along the stretch.

The activists said though the focus was on Krishnaraja constituency, the scenario was the same across the city and questions are being raised as to what happened to the ₹100 crore Chief Minister’s special grant released for the overall infrastructure development of the city.

S.A. Ramdas, former MLA, said the BJP government had released over ₹400 crore for the development of Mysuru. The plan also included overall development of Ramanuja Road adjacent to the JSS Hospital, at a cost of ₹10 crore. Though the project was approved in 2013, only ₹5.9 crore has been spent towards road upgradation that has come to a standstill.

On storm water drains, the BJP said the recent rains exposed the inadequacy of the existing infrastructure and the failure of the government. As a result, low lying areas of the city are always at risk. The government should upgrade the drains, they said.
