The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is introspecting over its dismal performance in the urban local bodies (ULBs) election since Thursday, is planning a strategy to plug loopholes in the organisational set-up before the Assembly polls.
According to party sources, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, the former State unit president K.S. Eshwarappa, the former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Member of Parliament Ananth Kumar and other senior leaders are holding discussions with the party’s district unit presidents, assessing the reason for the setback.
The leaders, who took stock of the situation in South Karnataka districts on Thursday, met the district unit leaders of Central Karnataka districts. They are holding a meeting of leaders from North Karnataka districts on Saturday.
“It is a kind of post-mortem of the polls,” said a senior party leader.
Moral policing
Meanwhile, party leaders from Dakshina Kannada confessed that moral policing by Bajrang Dal in the recent days had worked against the party’s prospects in the polls.
Whether the meeting discussed the plans of some Ministers quitting to join the Karnataka Janata Paksha, he said that the party was not worried about party-hoppers but believed in its cadre’s strength.
“Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani might quit, as he is particular in contesting from Jamkhandi Assembly segment. The rest are apprehensive of getting re-elected on a KJP ticket,” he said.
