The State government on Monday issued a notification withdrawing advocate G. Bhavani Singh from the post of Special Public Prosecutor in the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

This time, the notification states that Mr. Singh’s appointment was withdrawn “with due consultation with the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.”

Earlier, the government withdrew its notification issued on August 26 removing Mr. Singh from the post after Ms. Jayalalithaa and other accused moved the Supreme Court challenging the removal.

When the Supreme Court was hearing the plea, the government gave an undertaking that it will consult the Chief Justice in the matter.

The new notification was issued on September 16 after the Chief Justice accepted the government’s proposal.

Following this development, the Special Court trying the case has adjourned proceedings to September 23.
