Bhadrapur farmers to block NH-63 today

August 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 02:20 pm IST - HUBBALLI:

Close on the heels of farmers in Annigeri launching an agitation near here on Friday, those in Bhadrapur have announced plans to block the Hubballi-Gadag-Bhadrapur stretch of NH- 63 and the Byahatti-Navalgund-Bagalkot road on Monday.

The agitation is in support of the stir in Naragund in Gadag district seeking an early verdict on the Kalasa- Banduri Nala project and urging the government to fulfil their demands, including timely distribution of the crop insurance amount, writing off crop loans.

Farmers from surrounding villages, and several organisations and political parties have extended support to it.

Good response

The agitation in Annigeri on Friday evoked a good response. Monday’s stir is likely to affect paralyse vehicular movement.

The police have issued orders diverting the movement of traffic in the region. Vehicles moving towards Gadag from Hubballi have to ply via Hubballi-Kundagol-Lakshmeshwar route and those moving towards Bagalkote have to drive on Hubbballi-Dharwad-Savadatti-Yaragatti route. Besides, additional police forces would be deployed to avert untoward incidents, said a press release by Superintendent of Police C. Vamsi Krishna here on Sunday.
