A ‘Bandh’ was observed in Pavagada town by closing down shops, restaurants and other commercial establishments on Thursday following the murder of a student, Gautami in the hostel of a residential school in Bengaluru.
The ‘bandh’ call was given by several organisations including Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Srirama Sene, Tipu Sultan Yuvakara Sanga , Janata Dal (Secular) condemning the death of the student, Gauthami who hails from Pavagada.
Tyres were burnt at Rajiv Gandhinagar in Pavagada town and a motorcycle rally was carried out on the streets of the town.
Gautami’s parents, T. Ramesh and R. Lakshmi were inconsolable when the body was lifted from the house to take it in a procession to the cremation ground.
The body was taken in a procession to the cremation ground where hundreds of people, students including former minister, Venkatarmanappa, MLA from JD(S), K.M. Thimmarayappa also participated in the procession.
Her body was brought to Tumakuru at around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday to her house at Pathanjalinagara in Pavagada where hundreds of people including Gautami’s friends and relatives were waiting to see the body.
