The Belagavi District Administration is gearing up to meet the drinking-water problems and arrange for live stock during the summer for the people of the districts.
According to official sources here on Thursday, the Regional Commissioner In-charge and Managing Director of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) G. Kumar Naik has advised the deputy commissioners of seven districts in the division viz. Bagalkot, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Uttar Kannada and Vijayapura to prepare a contingency action plan and make all necessary alternative arrangements to supply safe drinking water to the residents and live stock in areas which face the shortage. He has also advised to ensure supply of fodder to the cattle in villages.
The District Administrations and Zilla Panchayats have also been advised to take measures to rejuvenate water-tanks which are either drying up or will dry up by clearing the silt.
Mr. Naik has already held a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners, senior officials of Zilla Panchayats and Hubli Electricity Supply Company and took fresh stock of the prevailing conditions both in the urban and rural areas of the division on Wednesday.
