Mangaluru: Former President of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy Rahim Uchil alleged on Friday that the Academy has become a stooge of the State Government and ceased to function independently.

He told presspersons that the Ministers and others were "blackmailing" the body and one of the awardees selected for the annual honours announced recently was close to the Congress leaders. The person's achievement was that he had an audio cassette release a decade ago and seserving cultural leaders had been ignored.

He alleged that initiatives taken by his team such as the Beary-Kannada dictionary, the World Beary Meet at Mysore and Beary Bhavan at Kotekar had been ignored.

He said he would consider appealing against the single-bench High Court verdict in the complaint he had filed against his removal as President of the Academy with the change of the Government and alleged that he was denied justice. eom
