Basava Jayanti, the birth anniversary of the 12th century social reformer and saint, was celebrated across the district with religious fervour.

The district administration, various organisations and religious institutions organised programmes and lectures on his teachings throughout the day.

Similar programmes were put up at the Basaveshwara temple in Basava Kalyan and places.

Deputy Commissioner P.C. Jaffer inaugurated the official celebrations and garlanding the Basaveshwara statue along with local leaders at Basaveshwara Circle on the Hyderabad Road. A procession was taken from Basaveshwar Circle to the Zilla Ranga Mandir.

MLA Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli, former MLAs Bandeppa Kashempur and Rahim Khan, Basava Jayanti reception committee president Babu Wali, Zilla panchayat member Shailendra Beldale participated in the programmes.
