The barbers of Kadagathur in Madhugiri taluk of Tumakuru district have finally opened their doors to all. They have started giving haircut to people without discrimination, including Dalits, who were hitherto denied the service, under full police protection.

The Hindu had reported on denial of haircut to Dalits on May 3, following which the district administration took up the issue.

Additional Superintendent of Police R. Lakshman, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rama Naik and other police personnel went to the village on Tuesday and convinced the barbers and leaders of the village to end the practice of denying haircut to Dalits.

Mr. Lakshman told The Hindu, “The people of the village said they would live in harmony and would not practice untouchability in any form.”

No case had been booked against anyone, he added.
