Members of the Hubli Bar Association refrained from attending court proceedings and staged a roadblock on Tuesday.

They were protesting against an assault on a young advocate. The reported attack occurred on Sunday evening when advocate Santoshkumar Ivani had gone to talk, on behalf of his client, with the opponent regarding a land dispute. Mr. Ivani, who reportedly tried to prevent both parties from quarrelling, was allegedly attacked by a ten-member group and suffered a head injury. Advocates led by Bar association president B.K. Patil alleged that instead of acting against those who attacked the advocate, the police were taking steps to initiate action against the young advocate. After refraining from attending court proceedings, they exited the court premises and blocked Court Circle to register their protest.

DCP (Law and Order) Subhash Gudimani rushed to the spot to pacify the protesters. They withdrew after he promised to take steps to arrest the accused within 12 hours.
