Awareness drive against chain snatching in Bidar

May 04, 2016 07:54 pm | Updated 07:54 pm IST - Bidar

Bidar police have begun an awareness drive against chain snatchers after a spurt in such incidents in the city.

As many as nine chain snatching incidents have been reported in the first four months this year. Only 15 cases were reported last year. Five of these cases were solved and properties returned to the owners later.

Police are now putting up posters and banners across town, asking women to be careful and not display their ornaments. This seems to have been prompted by two incidents reported in two days at the Palm Grove Road in the new city, frequented by senior citizens. Police patrolling has been strengthened and extra police personnel have been deputed in sensitive areas, police officials said.
