The members of Dharwad District Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union will participate in the All India Transport bandh on April 29, called to protest against the ‘Road Transport Safety Bill 2014’ of the Union government.

In a press release issued here on Monday, President of the Union, B.A. Mudhol said that a decision to support the bandh and also take out a protest march against the State government’s decision to ban services of two-stroke autorickshaws across the state.

The Union held a meeting in this regard on Sunday in which union office bearers, Devanand Jagapur Dadapeer Bepari, Ramesh Bhosle and others condemned the State government’s decision to ban two-stroke engine autorickshaws. They alleged that the government had taken the decision at the behest of the auto companies. They even sought to know whether the Transport Minister would dare to impose the same ban on cars, trucks and buses that polluted the environment.

The meeting finally resolved to take out a protest march on April 29 on the issue and submit a memorandum to the government through the tahsildar.
