Support for Administrative Training Institute (ATI) Director General and Mysore Regional Commissioner Rashmi. V, who was attacked on the ATI campus here recently, poured in from various quarters.
Even as several organisations staged dharnas and demonstrations condemning the assault on the senior IAS officer, members of women’s organisations, social activists and progressive thinkers of Mysore on Saturday urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to order an investigation by the Lokayukta into the attack on the officer and the alleged irregularities in the running of the premier training institute.
Condemned attackThe protesters, including Meera Nayak of Samata Vedike, Maj. Gen. (retd) S.G. Vombatkere of Mysore Grahakara Parishat, and social activist Asha Vombatkere, staged a demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here to express their condemnation of the attack. “This incident has exposed the lack of safety for women officers. We deem the attack on Ms. Rashmi as an attack on women’s self respect. It appears that the attack was pre-planned. The police failed in their duties to prevent the attack,” said a release from the Karnataka Mahila Dourjanya Virodhi Okkoota (Karnataka Federation against Atrocities on Women), under whose banner the agitation was staged.
The protesters sought action against those who led the attack and who instigated the attack on Ms. Rashmi.
