Tarun Gogoi inspects facilities, collects information on the R&D activities there

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday visited the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) here, one of the premier laboratories under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Accompanied by CFTRI acting director G. Venkateswara Rao, Mr. Gogoi visited the facilities at the institute and collected information on research and development activities taken up in recent years.

Dr. Rao later made a presentation on the developments that had taken place in the institute in the last five years.

‘No specific reason'

Speaking to The Hindu, Dr. Rao said there was no specific reason for the Assam Chief Minister's visit.

As Mr. Gogoi was in Bangalore, he wanted to see the developments at the institute.

Mr. Gogoi had visited the CFTRI earlier, when he was Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industry.

Dr. Rao said Mr. Gogoi suggested that more work be done to prevent malnutrition in children as well as food losses. Mr. Gogoi also saw the food preparation machines, including the dosa-making machine, developed by the institute.

He spent around one-and-a-half hours at the institute visiting the facilities and interacting with the scientists.
