The pass percentage in the arts stream has seen the sharpest decline this year. The pass percentage of 42.12 is a 9-point decline from last year.
Prakash M., director of studies, Seshadripuram Group of Institutions, said, “Although there are expectations, a majority of the students who choose to study arts are those who are not able to secure science or commerce seats as they would have scored less in the SSLC exam.” Another reason for this could be the low pass percentage in economics (68.43) and political science (73.81). In a majority of the core science subjects, except biology, the pass percentage is above 80.
The pass percentage in commerce (64.16) has dipped by 2.9 points when compared to last year, and that in science (66.25) has improved by 1.06 points.
Sources in the DPUE said the improvement in the science pass percentage could be attributed to the “easy” chemistry paper that the students wrote after the exam was cancelled twice.
