Banking operations were partially hit in Karnataka with around 30,000 bank employees striking work in response to the one-day nationwide strike to protest the proposed merger of State Bank of Indore with its parent SBI on Wednesday.

About 2,000 employees belonging to the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) and All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBEA) participated in a rally organised by the unions in front of State Bank of Mysore, Head Office here, A.B. Shetty Secretary, AIBOA, Karnataka told reporters.

The unions are also demanding strengthening and expanding Public Sector Banks, which control about 70 per cent of the banking operations in the country.
