APP opposes BJP’s Raichur bandh call

Ambedkar People’s Party (APP) State president Mahendrakumar Mitra has urged the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police not to give permission to the proposed Raichur bandh called by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. He was addressing a press conference in Raichur on Thursday.

Mr. Mitra, who criticised BJP leaders, particularly Papa Reddy, for calling the bandh to demand drinking water, roads and other basic facilities, said that if the bandh is observed, routine life of street vendors and students will be effected. Apart from that, the Supreme Court has “prohibited political parties from giving bandh calls”, he added.

He said that Mr. Papa Reddy had done nothing for the people when the BJP was in power. But, he is now calling a bandh to get political mileage, as the election to the Assembly is nearing. Therefore, the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police should not permit Mr. Papa Reddy to observe the bandh, he said

It is learnt that the BJP has planned to observe a bandh in Raichur on January 22.

C.M. Narayan, district APP president, was present.
