APL families to get subsidised wheat, rice

April 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:31 am IST - BENGALURU:

The State government has decided to supply subsidised rice and wheat to nearly 20 crore above poverty line (APL) families under the public distribution system from June 1.

APL families have to register their names at the ration shops from April 10 by producing necessary documents to take their monthly quota.

Unit system

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Dinesh Gundu Rao said the price of rice and wheat is Rs. 15 and Rs. 10 a kg, respectively.

The department will adopt a unit system so that a single-member family gets 5 kg of rice, while an eight-member family will get 40 kg of rice per month.

Cut in funding

Mr. Rao hit out at the Modi government for the drastic cut in funding for Centrally-sponsored schemes.
