BJP national president Amit Shah will be on a three-day visit to the State from August 12, during which he will chair brainstorming sessions to chalk out the party’s strategy for the Assembly elections.
Mr. Shah’s visit seems to come at a time when the State BJP, which has been on the offensive against the Congress-led State government, suddenly finds itself on the defensive, unable to articulate a clear stand on multiple issues.
Demand for minority religion status for Lingayat, a community whose support the BJP relies heavily upon, has turned out to be a tricky issue that the party has decided to strategically keep mum on for now. Anti-Hindi agitations and the State flag issue continue to put the party in a tough spot.
Mr. Shah is expected to hold a series of meetings with party leaders and also chair a core-committee meeting, when the State unit hopes to chalk out a strategy to wriggle out of these tricky situations.
Sources said anti-corruption plank and murders of several Hindu activists in the coastal region were likely to be discussed too.
