Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said an all-party meeting would be convened here on June 4 to discuss the fallout of the notification by the Centre forming the Cauvery Supervisory Committee as a pro tem measure to oversee the release of Cauvery waters to the basin States as per the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

The first meeting of the committee is to be held in New Delhi on Saturday.

The supervisory committee, headed by the Union Water Resources Secretary, was constituted following the notification of the Cauvery Water (Implementation of the Order of 2007) Scheme, 2013, recently. It decides on the quantum of water to be supplied by Karnataka for June when the irrigation season begins in the neighbouring State.

Four weeks’ time

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Siddaramaiah said Chief Secretary S.V. Ranganath would attend the meeting and seek four weeks’ time from the committee to spell out the stand on the issue.

On the petition filed by the Tamil Nadu government in the Supreme Court seeking compensation for the crop loss owing to the alleged non-release of water to that State, Mr. Siddaramaiah said Karnataka was yet to receive summons from the apex court. He said the new government had just assumed office and the issue was being studied, and a reply would be given after consulting legal experts.

The Chief Minister said the government would formulate its stand on the petition after receiving summons.

Major and Medium Irrigation Minister M.B. Patil said the State had released water to Tamil Nadu and protected the Samba and Kuruvai crops, at the cost of our own farmers. “We will convince the court about the situation in the State when we receive summons,” he added.
