Terming the allegations by the Vokkaligara Sangha that he had allotted 4 acres of land in Bangalore meant for public use to an individual when he was the Chief Minister as “Congress-sponsored attack”, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jagadish Shettar on Tuesday maintained that the land allotment was made according to the direction of the Karnataka High Court.

“The person to whom the land was allotted is the son of a freedom fighter. The government allotted land to him in 1967 under the freedom fighters’ quota, but withdrew it without any valid reason. This was challenged by him in the court, and after a protracted legal battle, the court directed the State government to allot the land in question to him,” Mr. Shettar said at a press conference here.

“When the court acted further on a contempt petition following delay in the grant of land, the issue was taken up by the State Cabinet and a decision was taken to abide by the court direction,” he said.
