All set for socio-economic survey in Kalaburagi

All arrangements have been completed for the socio-economic survey of the population in the district beginning on April 1, according to Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal.

Participation in an interactive session with presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Bansal said that around 4,667 enumerators and 815 supervisors have been appointed for the 20-day survey.

Mr. Bansal said that the purpose of the survey is to study the social, economical and educational conditions of different communities.

Enumerators would only fill up the details related to caste, education, economic status and other details, including the property owned by the individual persons, in the 55 columns in enumeration.

He clarified that the enumerators would not ask for any proof or data for the verification of the details provided by the people.

However, he said that providing any wrong information about the family and other details during the survey would invite a penal punishment and imprisonment upto six months.

Sharannappa Manegar, member of the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission, said that the total population of the State is around 6.11 crore with around 1.38 households. Around 1.25 lakh staff, including district-level officers, trainers, supervisors and enumerators has been appointed in 1,26,800 blocks in the State, for the survey.

Referring to the non mention of Catholics and Protestants in the enumeration form, Mr. Manegar said this was because there was no request in this regard from the communities.

However, they were free to mention their community as Catholic Christians or Protestant Christians in the others column and a separate column has also been provided to those who wish not to mention their religion or caste.
