General Manager of South-Western Railway, Praveen Kumar Saxena said that by 2021 all the 2,450 coaches in S-W Railway will be fitted with bio-toilets as part of ‘Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan’.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Saxena said 326 bio-toilets have already been fitted in the coaches and the remaining coaches will be provided with the bio-toilets by 2021.
Answering to a query on the delay in Railway projects due to hurdles in land acquisition, Mr. Saxena said that it is a temporary set-back and said that it will be resolved shortly.
He said Tumakuru City Railway Station will be modernised at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.5 crore and will be made a model railway station.
Mr. Saxena said surprise raids will be conducted by the Railway police to check illegal activities including gambling (playing cards) in the trains.
FACTS:
* SWR has carried 190 million passengers during the financial year 2014-15 yielding originating earnings earnings of Rs.1821 crore.
* SWR has loaded 37.5 million tonnes of freight (mainly comprising of Coal, finished steel, Iron ore) during the financial year 2014-15 yielding originating earnings of Rs.3383 crore.
* During 2015-16, it is targeted to complete 76km of new line projects and commissioning another 76km of doubling.
