Minister for Housing V. Somanna has said that the handing over of Aasare houses to those affected by the floods of 2009 across the State will be completed by October-end.
He was speaking at a function to hand over Aasare houses to beneficiaries at Valabellary village of Sindhanur taluk on Wednesday.
Mr. Somanna said the government had completed 56,377 of 58,000 houses taken up for construction under the project. However, some beneficiaries were refusing to move into the houses owing to lack of basic facilities. Officials had been asked to ensure that the amenities were provided in Aasare colonies, the Minister said.
He said about 600 houses at Valabellary, Hulagunchi, Haratanur and Hedaginal in Sindhanur taluk were handed over to beneficiaries on Wednesday. Around 9,000 Aasare houses had already been handed over. The work on the remaining would be completed in two months.
Houses for the poor
Later, speaking to presspersons, Mr. Somanna said the Union Government recently sanctioned one lakh houses under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP) to provide shelter to the urban poor. A sum of Rs. 2.25 lakh was fixed for the construction of each house. The programme would be launched shortly in select urban areas in the State.
Venkat Rao Nadagouda and Pratap Gowda Patil, MLAs, chairman of the Tungabhadra Irrigation Consultative Committee Bassangouda Byagwat, Deputy Commissioner M.V. Savitri, Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat Manoj Jain and Yogesh, Assistant Commissioner (Lingsugur Revenue Circle), were among those present.
