Former Chief Minister and State President of Janata Dal(Secular), H.D. Kumaraswamy warned the state government that he will launch an agitation if the people arrested in connection with Katigenahalli riots are not released by January 1st, 2015.

After visiting Katigenahalli where the clash between the police and agitators agitating against the establishment of solid waste management plant near Ajjagonadanahalli in Tumakuru taluk took place on December 20, speaking to reporters, Mr.Kumaraswamy alleged that the issue was vitiated due to the differences between Dr. G. Parameshwara, President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and T.B. Jayachandra, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs.

He said most of the men ran away from the village out of fear of being harassed by the police.

He said it is not correct on the part of the police to take revenge on the villagers just because a police van was burnt and police personnel were injured in the riots.

He demanded the government to immediately release all those who were arrested in connection with the riots.

He gave Rs. 50,000 cash to the family of Shivakumar, the deceased employee of Tumakuru University.
