Yadgir District Advocates Association members, who were on an indefinite dharna from November 2 demanding land for a new District Court complex, withdrew the dharna on Monday after the district administration handed over records of land allotment to them.

Earlier, on Monday, Baburao Chinchansur, Chairman of the Karnataka State Border Area Development Authority, visited the venue of the dharna and conveyed a message to the advocates about land allotment for the proposed construction and requested them to withdraw the dharna.

Thereafter, Sadanand Nayak, Principal District and Sessions Judge, and Channamallappa Ganti, Tahsildar of Yadgir, also met the advocates. Then, Mr. Ganti handed over a copy of the order of land allotment to the advocates. The advocates, who sought 15 acres of land for the court complex, launched their indefinite dharna outside the Yadgir Tahsildar’s office on November 2. The district administration, which made several attempts to convince the advocates of the need to withdraw their dharna, finally allotted 10 acres of land, after clearing administrative hurdles. “We demanded 15 acres of land for the court complex, along with official residential quarters. However, the district administration allotted only 10 acres,” B.B. Killanakeri, president of Advocates Association, told The Hindu . He said that Mr. Chinchansur also assured them of allotting the remaining five acres of land later.
