Members of the Davangere Bar Association boycotted court proceedings here on Friday and staged a rasta roko on old Pune-Bengaluru road demanding resignation of Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao over the involvement of his son and four others in demanding bribe from government officers.

Addressing protesters, Bar Association president K.H. Ataullah Khan said the Lokayukta should immediately resign and co-operate with the officers involved in investigating the case, in order to maintain the dignity of the Lokayukta office in the State.

He also demanded that criminal cases should be filed against his son Ashwin and the others involved in the case and stringent action be initiated against them after a thorough inquiry.

The State government should hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in order to find out the truth and maintain the dignity of the Lokayukta office, which has played crucial role in solving many issues.

The agitators submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner S.T. Anjan Kumar and said the protest would be intensified if Mr. Rao fails to submit his resignation.
