Students affiliated to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had a tiff with the police and senior officials of the district administration after they held an unauthorised protest demanding bus services to different colleges in Kalaburagi city on Tuesday.

The students marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the Vikasa Soudha complex here and blocked movement of traffic on the main road for some time, before they were persuaded by the police to move out.

The students moved to the main gate of the Vikas Soudha and disrupted the movement of vehicles into the complex. Repeated pleas by the police personnel did not have any effect on the students.

When Regional Commissioner Aditya Amlan Biswas arrived in his official vehicle, students blocked the car and a few of them even banged the car’s bonnet. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Govind Reddy rushed to the scene and ensured the entry of the vehicle. He asked the students to come inside the Vikas Soudha complex and submit their memorandum.

ABVP leaders has a heated exchange of words with police officials and Mr. Reddy. The students were protesting against the denial of their ‘right to protest’ by the officials.

The police informed Mr. Reddy that the ABVP had not taken permission from the police for organising the protest. Mr. Reddy and other officials pulled up the students for organising the protest without obtaining necessary permission and causing inconvenience to the public.

Later, the activists were called to the police station and issued a notice under the Karnataka Police Act for organising a protest without obtaining permission.
