Actor Pooja Gandhi has said that Abhinetri , in which she plays the lead role, will hit screens shortly.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, she said the editing and dubbing work had been completed and that the Censor Board had accorded ‘UA’ certificate for the film.

Bhagya Krishnamurthy, writer, had approached the court claiming that the film was based on her work, Abhinetriya Antaranga , which was serialised in a Kannada weekly.

The petitioner claimed that the story was used without seeking her permission. To a question, Ms. Gandhi said the legal hurdles related to the release of the film had been cleared.

The film has been directed by Satish Pradhan, who has also worked on the script, and it has been produced by Ms. Gandhi. She said the project was a learning experience for her as a producer. “The experience has enhanced my professionalism,” she said.

The cast includes Atul Kulkarni, Ramya Barna and Sudha Belawadi. To a question, she said the story was inspired by the life and career of Kalpana, the yesteryear Kannada actor.

Abhinetri would also be released in Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam and Bhojpuri, she said.

Ms. Gandhi said that she was fortunate to get an opportunity to play challenging roles in films such as Dandupalya , Thippajji Circle and now in Abhinetri . “The tastes and preferences of the audience are changing. Actors cannot remain confined to formula-based commercial films. Those in the film industry should understand the pulse of the audience and update themselves with changing times,” she said.

To another question, she said that at present she was not associated with any political party. “I have been preoccupied with Abhinetri project for the last year,” she said.
