A question of accountability

Striking lecturers and principals have questioned the government on how it could bring accountability for private college lecturers, who are being roped in for evaluation.

“The government penalises us with a fine, cuts increment and even bars us from evaluation for three consecutive years if there is any error from our end and if mistakes are spotted during re-evaluation. But expecting the same accountability from private lecturers will be a problem,” a government lecturer said.

However, the only problem with using private lecturers is that the department cannot initiate any action against them, in case they commit a mistake during evaluation.

A department official said they could write to the college management recommending action against the private college evaluators.
