Protesting against the denial of salary to 13 municipal workers of the Hassan City Municipal Council (CMC), the district unit of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) called for an indefinite hunger strike from February 14.
The workers will stage a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office and the protest will continue till the salary dues to the employees were cleared.
Dharmesh, CITU district president, at a press conference here on Tuesday, said H.S. Anil Kumar, CMC president, and Nagabhushan, commissioner, had adopted anti-workers’ policies in the administration. “The municipal workers had staged a protest in the first week of November 2016 demanding the immediate release of the revised salary to them. The president got the workers who went on protest removed from the payroll. These workers, hired through an outsourcing agency, were not given attendance and salary. However, there is no written communication on their removal from the service,” he said.
Terming the actions of the CMC arbitrary and against the workers’ right to protest injustice, Mr. Dharmesh said that members of the CITU would extend their support to the protest in the district.
