The rift between former Minister G. Karunakara Reddy, elder brother of mining baron G. Janardhan Reddy, and the latter’s close associate B. Sriramulu, MP, took a curious turn with G. Somashekar Reddy, one of the three brothers, openly expressing his support for Mr. Sriramulu.

“The recent developments within the family has pained me a lot. It was unfortunate that my elder brother, Karunakara Reddy filed cases against Sriramulu over sale of plots. For us, Sriramulu is another brother, and instrumental in our family’s overall development. Karunakara should have initiated steps to settle the dispute within the four walls,” Mr. Somashekar said, while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday.

According to him, Mr. Sriramulu was instrumental in getting Mr. Janardhan Reddy a mining company (OMC) and had also stood firm with the family when its non-banking finance institution, Ennoble India, was facing problems. “He was instrumental in bringing me into politics, making me vice-president of Ballari Municipal Council, and also an MLA. Apart from that he ensured Karunakara’s victory as MP, and in getting him a ministerial berth in the B.S. Yeddyurappa government,” he said.
