The Fourth Additional District and Sessions Court in Bhadravati has awarded a life sentence to a man who had been accused of murdering his mother.

Ashok (36), a resident of Dasarakallahalli village, was arrested by the Bhadravati rural police in October 2014 on the charge of murdering his mother, Jayalakshmi.

According to the police, Ashok had married against his mother’s wishes. They used to be frequent quarrels between Jayalakshmi and her daughter-in-law. When one such quarrel ensued between the duo on October 29, 2014, Ashok intervened and tried to pacify them. When they continued to fight, in a fit of anger, Ashok assaulted Jayalakshmi, who died when she suffered serious head and ear injuries.

The arrested had later wrapped the dead body in a cloth and thrown it into the Bhadra. The police had booked a case under Section 302 (Murder) of the Indian Penal Code against Ashok.

As the charges levelled against him were proved, the Court awarded him life imprisonment and also slapped a fine of ₹10,000 on him.
