The situation in Laxmeshwar town of Gadag district, where irate mob vandalised police station and burnt down police vehicles after an alleged lock-up death, has returned to normality.
While IGP North Range Ramchandra Rao is camping in the town along with SPs from neighbouring districts, ADGP Alok Mohan also paid a visit.
When CID team led by S.P. Divya Sarah Thomas reached Laxmeshwar in the afternoon, the fire brigade personnel were still washing off the soot deposited on roof and walls of the police station.
Several of the police records have been gutted in the arson. On Monday, the station staff had kept the salvaged damp documents under sunlight for drying.
Meanwhile, IGP Ramchandra Rao clarified that the deceased was neither taken into custody nor was brought to the police station. Post-mortem was conducted as per the procedure and NHRC guidelines, he said.
Police sources revealed that the attack was carried out when only three personnel were on duty. The manner in which attack was carried out indicated it to be a planned one and it was being investigated, they said
