Industry stakeholders prepare wish list ahead of State Budget

Ahead of the tabling of the State Budget in March, stakeholders have sought notification of the Industrial Township Authority for focussed growth of industrial areas in Mysuru.

Policy initiatives for the overall industrial development of the region have also been mooted by stakeholders from industrial associations, chamber of commerce and the like. They have prepared and submitted a wish list to the government.

The list was drafted at a pre-budget meeting held in the city recently and attended by Confederation of Indian Industry, Mysuru chairman Muthukumar, Mysore Industries Association (MIA) president Vasu, its former president P. Vishwanath and secretary Suresh Kumar Jain, a release said.

The stakeholders, who discussed the short, medium and long-term requirements for Mysuru’s industrial growth , have sought notification of the township authority for the city to facilitate the growth of industrial estates.

The Mysuru Industrial Township Authority was proposed almost 20 years ago and was finally announced in the 2015-16 budget, but the government is yet to notify it. The stakeholders aver that the industrial layouts of Metagalli, Hootagalli, Koorgalli, Hebbal and Belwadi require focussed growth, which would be possible only through a single window agency as envisioned under the proposed authority.

Greater independence

Last year’s budget had promised to declare industrial estates in Mysuru, Belagavi, Hubballi and Bengaluru as industrial townships, paving the way for their independent administration. The MIA said it is imperative to notify the authority for better development by way of civic amenities and infrastructure. With the township authority in place, taxes would be paid directly to it instead of to the local body, which will be kept out of the industrial area’s administration. This will also ensure that zonal regulations are not violated by industries, said Mr. Jain.

The MIA has also sought ₹35 crore for road widening in the existing industrial area spread over 6,500 acres and improving the underground drainage and storm-water drains. The wish list prepared by the MIA has also demanded allocation of ₹100 crore towards payment of subsidy to nearly 1,000 industries in the region.

The government has also been requested to levy only the ‘cost of supply’ for power supplied to the industries, as in a few other States. This will give a fillip to the small and micro units.

Cluster area development, a helipad for industrial area, installation of solar lights, development of industrial sheds on small sites to facilitate micro units, conducting Industrial Adalat in Mysuru, and funds for establishing industrial waste disposal unit are among the other demands put forth by industry stakeholders.
