First year medico gang-raped

The Kakti police are on lookout for five youths who allegedly gang-raped a young medico studying first year MBBS in Belagavi city.

The 17-year-old girl, resident of a town in Dharwad district, was allegedly raped at an open hill site on the outskirts of Kakti village, about 10 km, from the city on the evening of February 15. The incident came to light when the victim registered a complaint with the police in presence of her parents on Tuesday morning.

The girl was immediately taken to the district government hospital for medical examination, even as Deputy Commissioner of Police (L&O) G. Radhika and Inspector Ramesh Gokak rushed to the hospital and inquired about her health condition and the incident.

Police said the girl, who was with her boyfriend near one of the windmill fans on a hill site between Kakti and Mutyanatti, was forcibly taken away to a side by a group of five youth and raped. Her boyfriend, who tried to prevent it, was beaten up.

A case has been registered and the police was looking for the accused, who have been identified as residents of Mutyanatti village.
