Digvijaya Singh, AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, will hold discussions with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and over a dozen senior Congress leaders here on Sunday to repair the damage done to the party by the alleged “diary revelations” and revamp the State unit of the party to face the 2018 Assembly elections.
Sources in the party said Mr. Singh would chair a coordination committee meeting of the KPCC and discuss various issues, including revamp of the State Cabinet, appointment of presidents to 20 district Congress committees, and the strategy for the byelections to be held in two constituencies.
Other issues
A proposal on drafting senior Ministers, who have completed four years in the Cabinet, for party work, and the BJP’s allegations on payment of a huge sums to the Congress central leadership by Mr. Siddaramaiah are also likely to figure prominently in the meeting.
Mr. Singh is expected to direct Congress leaders to identify “winnable” candidates in the 102 constituencies where the party had lost in the 2013 Legislative Assembly elections and replacements in the constituencies where incumbent legislators are not active and popular, sources said.
