Customs officials have seized contraband worth more than ₹ 57 lakh in 12 instances of smuggling at the Mangaluru International Airport in January this year.
According to a press release, Customs officials seized 759.2 grams of gold in the form of “E” shaped silver coloured plates in the first week of the month. These silver coloured plates were concealed in the transformer portion of a AC/DC cooler fan.
A few days ago, Customs sleuths seized 947.5 grams of gold concealed in the transformer portion of a stereo amplifier and transformer portion of a pump for a medical mattress. Passengers who were carrying these articles were arrested, the release said.
Customs sleuths also seized 11.975 grams of smoking tobacco. As many as nine cases of smuggling of foreign brand cigarettes were detected in which 251 cartons were confiscated, the release said.
