75-year-old farmer commits suicide

Tumakuru A 75-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by hanging in a

hut behind his house in Alanuru in Tumakuru taluk on Wednesday.

The police said that the deceased has been identified as Lakshmaiah. His wife, Puttamma, was bed-ridden due to paralysis and his son was working as a carpenter in Bengaluru.

He has one acre of land and had grown around 60 kg. of horsegram. He did not have any loans in banks or cooperative societies. However, his family says that he had taken Rs.2.5 lakh loan from private money lenders to construct a house. He was suffering from

asthma.

A case has been registered in Tumakuru rural police station.
