As many as 42 candidates are left in the fray for the June 9 elections to the Legislative Council from the three seats — Karnataka North West Graduates’ constituency, Karnataka North West Teachers’ constituency and Karnataka West Teachers’ constituency— falling in the districts of north Karnataka. The last day to withdraw the nominations expired at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Of the total 53, nomination papers of 51 candidates were found in order during scrutiny on Tuesday. A total of nine candidates (all Independents) withdrew their candidature on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the Office of the Returning Officer N. Jayaram.
