The 10-day army recruitment rally organised by Army Recruiting Office (ARO), Belagavi at the playground of University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur has received good response with over 36,000 candidates from across the state turning up for different physical and medical tests.
Addressing a media conference at the recruitment ground here on Wednesday, Colonel Dushyanth Singh, ARO, Belagavi, said that he had extended the recruitment rally till next Sunday as a medical team of six doctors could not finish the medical tests of large number of candidates.
According to the details he provided, a total of 36,597 candidates from different districts of the state have appeared. Of them, 9,995 candidates have passed initial screening of physical standards (minimum requirement of height, weight and chest sizes) and the education qualifications and qualified for physical test (1.6 kms running, 9 feet ditch, zig-zag balance and pull-ups). Only 2,691 have passed physical test and qualified for medical examination. The Common Entrance Examination for medically fit candidates issued with Admit Card will be conducted on February 1, 2015.
“Yet, it is a huge number for a team of six doctors who have arrived from different places across India to complete the medical tests within the stipulated time. The medical test is therefore extended to December 21,” he said.
The officer said it was the biggest turn out as compared to recent army recruitment rallies conducted by the Indian Army in the state.
The rally that began on December 10, was supposed to be completed on December 17. In the recruitment rally, while the Soldier General Duty, Soldier Tradesmen, Soldier Technical and Soldier NA posts were reserved for volunteer male candidates who were permanent residents of Raichur and Belagavi districts, Soldier Clerk, Soldier Store Keeper and Soldier Technical posts were open for all the volunteer male candidates from all the districts in the state.
Poor Response from Raichur
Colonel Dushyanth Singh opined that the very purpose of organising army recruitment rally in Raichur was to provide an opportunity to the local youth to join Indian Army and it could not completely be served as the rally did not evoke expected response from the Raichur candidates.
“Of the 36,597 candidates appeared, only 768 were from Raichur, of whom 193 cleared physical examination and qualified for medical examination. The number of Raichur candidates appeared, however, is much higher as compared to their participation in previous army recruitment rallies where only 100 plus candidates from the district had participated,” he said.
Fair and transparent
Colonel Dushyanth Singh appealed the candidates who wished to participate in army recruitment rallies and appear for common entrance examinations not to fall touts by paying money.
“The recruitment process is completely pool proof and transparent and no tout can influence it. Only those who are physically and medically fit and educationally qualified candidates are recruited,” he added.
Another army officer, Colonel Anil Thakur was present.
