33 injured as bus falls off bridge near Belur

As many as 33 passengers suffered minor injuries when a KSRTC bus, heading towards Belur from Sakleshpur, fell off a bridge near Vatehalla in Belur taluk on Monday morning.

Majority of the injured were students, who took the bus to reach schools and colleges in Belur town. The driver of the bus lost control while negotiating the narrow road on the bridge. The bus got stuck in the shrubs.

Anil Kumar, Divisional Controller of KSRTC Chikkamagaluru division, told The Hindu that a part of the suspension of the bus got cut while the driver was negotiating the steep stretch. “The driver has managed to take the vehicle down and park it. The KSRTC has provided an ex gratia of Rs. 75,500 to the injured. They are out of danger,” he said.
