Medical and dental college aspirants across the country can use their NEET scores to bag a seat in private colleges in the State. But to protect the interests of aspirants from Karnataka, all educational institutions may have to reserve 30% seats for State students.
Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash R. Patil said this would be done in the interest of students in the State. The 30% reservation will come from the institutional quota and will be in addition to government quota seats that are already being allotted by unaided and minority institutions. The government followed the same procedure for postgraduate seats and had passed the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Determination of Fee) Amendment Bill, 2017 in the State legislature, which was later gazetted after the Governor’s assent.
Dr. Patil also said they will conduct centralised counselling for medical and dental seats in private and government colleges. However, private college managements have not agreed to this and said they would take a call soon.
