26,669 candidates appearing for KAS exam

As many as 26,669 candidates are appearing from the district for the preliminary examination of the Karnataka Administrative Services for gazetted probationary officers’ being held on April 19, said Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri.

The examination will be held at 86 centres in the district, including 63 in Shivamogga and 23 at Bhadravati. Of the 26,669 candidates, 19,805 candidates are writing for the examination in Shivamogga and 6,884 in Bhadravati, he said at a press conference here on Saturday.

Twenty-one visually challenged candidates would be taking the examination at Hoysala College of Management here. The district administration has appointed seven officials as supervisors and formed 18 flying squads to ensure smooth and fair conduct of the examination.

In addition, a route officer has been appointed for every five centres. Police personnel would be deployed to every examination centre for security purposes. Prohibitory orders under section 144 of Indian Penal Code would be in force in 200-m. radius of all examination centres.

Photocopy kiosks around the examination centres would be closed. The examination process would be videotaped, Mr. Ikkeri said.
