Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar has said that the salary of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (KPTCL) employees would be enhanced by 26%.
He told presspersons on the premises of Sharavathi Hydel Power Project near Jog–Kargal on Friday that the State government would pass an order to this effect on Saturday.
Regarding the proposed Sharavathi Pumped Storage Power Project, he said the managing board of Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. had ordered a feasibility survey on the project.
He said that owing to disruption in the supply of coal to Karnataka, power generation in thermal power stations in the State was not on expected lines. To bridge the gap between demand and supply, 1,000 MW of power was being purchased from outside sources. To a query, he said Karnataka would achieve self-reliance in power generation by December 2018.
On the proposal to draw water from Linganamakki reservoir constructed across the Sharavati to meet the drinking water needs of Bengaluru, he said Sharavati water was needed for power generation. The drinking water needs of Bengaluru can be met from other sources, he added.
