General secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Prakash Karat has said the Union government should ensure that the trailer of the anti-Islam film, produced in the U.S., is not shown on YouTube or by any other means. “The Indian government should demand that the U.S. government take strong action against those responsible for the film,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Mr. Karat pointed out that the film “has caused widespread anger and outrage among Muslims all over the world.” It was made by an extremist group to defame Islam.
He said: “The CPI (M) has strongly condemned this viscous film. Despite the worldwide demand that the film be banned and strong action taken against the producers of the film, the U.S. government has refused to do so. Islamophobia has been growing in the West. A few years ago a Danish newspaper published cartoon denigrating the Prophet. In that case too, no action was taken.”
