A month after the Jnaneswari Express disaster, the third and final report of the DNA tests on the unidentified bodies would be available on Friday.
“If the bodies still remain unclaimed, the West Bengal government would take appropriate measure to dispose of them,” West Bengal Director General of Police, Bhupinder Singh said on Thursday.
A total of 148 passengers were killed in the mishap that occurred on May 28 after a portion of the rail line was removed, derailing the coaches, and a goods train ramming into the passenger express.
Speaking about Madhusudan Mondal alias Narayan, the zonal committee secretary of Maoists during the Nandigram movement who was arrested recently, the DGP said his interrogation had revealed many names.
“We were after Narayan for the last two years. He and some others were in-charge of urban affairs of the Maoists. They joined jungle mahal in 2003 and the Maoist action squad in 2008,” the DGP said.
“We are expecting many more arrests on the basis of the evidence, including Debolina Chakraborty though she has denied her involvement in Maoist activities,” he said.
He added, “We have to destroy the entire Maoist network and improve our sourcing. The Maoists are now merging with the urban population, which is not a good sign.”
The police would also strengthen its missing persons cell at the district level and take steps against trafficking of women, he said.
