On the eve of Id, authorities in the Kashmir Valley have withdrawn 104 cases of stone pelting, involving 634 people.
A three-member committee, constituted by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, had proposed all cases pertaining to the period between 2008 and 2014 “be segregated and recommended for withdrawal in a phased manner.”
“The committee has accordingly recommended that 104 cases registered during that period involving 634 persons be withdrawn,” said an official spokesman.
No review of extreme cases
The committee, however, made it clear that the persons involved in heinous crimes and offenses will be excluded from the review.
The spokesman said the accused and their parents shall have to give an undertaking that they will not indulge in any such activities in future.
Meanwhile, the committee has sought three weeks time for review of the cases pertaining to the period between 2010 and 2014.
