J&K cop missing with service rifle

A policeman of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has gone missing along with his service rifle. The policemen belongs to the counter insurgency Special Operation Group and was posted in Sopore in north Kashmir.

According to official police sources, Mohamad Shafi Dar of Nowpora, Sopore, an Special Police Officer (SPO), went missing on Thursday afternoon along with his gun. He had not returned till last reports came in.

“We have registered a case and investigations are on. We have constituted a special team to trace him,” police officials told The Hindu , confirming that the policeman had taken his AL-47 with him.

“It seems from the primary investigations that he has joined a militant organisation, most probably the LeT, but we are still looking into the matter,” a police officer from Sopore told The Hindu .

The police, however, refuse to officially confirm this.
